El Gremio de Directores de America - Directors Guild of America (DGA) anunció, ayer 9 de Enero, sus nominaciones para el Premio por Logro Destacable en Dirección en Película Largometraje (Cine) en 2011.

El ganador se anunciará el 28 de Enero, durante los 64th Annual DGA Awards.

Ganó un DGA Commercial Award por Speed Chain (Nike), Gamebreakers (Nikegridiron.com), y Beauty for Sale (Xelibri Phones) en 2003 y fue nominado en esa categoría de nuevo en 2008.

Esta es la novena nominación de Scorsese al DGA Award. Ganó el premio en esta categoría en 2006 por The Departed, y fue previamente nominado en la misma por Taxi Driver (1976), Raging Bull (1980), Goodfellas (1990), The Age of Innocence (1993), Gangs of New York (2002) y The Aviator (2004). Scorsese ganó el año pasado el DGA Award por Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Dramatic Television por Boardwalk Empire. En 1999, Scorsese fue honrado con el Filmmaker Award en la gala inagural DGA Honors Gala, y con el Lifetime Achievement Award en 2003.

El DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film ha sido tradicionalmente el barómetro más fiable a la hora de decidir quien ganará el premio de la Academia. Solo en seis ocasiones, desde 1948 cuando este premio empezó a entregarse, no ha coincidido el ganador de este premio con el ganador del Oscar. Las excepciones son las siguientes:

1972: Francis Ford Coppola ganó el DGA Award por The Godfather / Bob Fosse ganó el Oscar por Cabaret.

2000: Ang Lee ganó el DGA Award por Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon / Steven Soderbergh ganó el Oscar por Traffic.
2002: Rob Marshall ganó el DGA Award por Chicago / Roman Polanski ganó el Oscar por The Pianist.
